Clic Glasses a Cool Tool Added to My Freelance Writing Arsenal
68One of the challenges more mature freelance writers face is keeping track of their writing tools. This writer is extremely happy that things have evolved beyond the pen and paper, typewriter and paper to the all inclusive laptop.
In days of old, I wasted much time searching for my writing notebook. After finding the notebook, I’d have to get up again because the pen was out of ink. As years went by, I decided to type my daily utterances. So, armed with a supply of paper, typewriter ribbon, white out and typewriter, I would bang away (still too many tools to keep track of).
Writing and the Computer
When computers became more popular, I flocked to it like a moth to a flame. All I needed was the computer. No need to find a pen with ink, no searching for the notebook, no ribbon, whiteout, etc., etc. Just plop down in front of the computer and write away.
Things have progressed even further with laptops. Now, as a freelance writer, I can literally write anywhere (as long as I keep track of where I last left my laptop). All was going along swimmingly until…
Age Plays its Little Jokes
Having approached the age where my perfect vision is beginning to play games, I find that the fuzzy edges to my writing only disappear if I place my writing and laptop further and further away. The only problem is that the length of my arms was no longer adequate. I knew it was time to supplement my vision with a pair of reading glasses.
What a cruel little joke. Just when I was able to keep track of my writing tools I find I need reading glasses. Now I’m back to the hunt for tools before I write game. No matter how many pair of glasses I own, when I sit down to my laptop to write, I’ve got to get up and go on a house hunt to find my glasses.
Clic Glasses to the Writer's Rescue
I solved my house hunt for glasses with one little Clic. I discovered Clic glasses. The cool thing about them is that they connect via a small magnet at the bridge of the nose while the arms of the glasses connect around the back of the head. To take them off I just tug slightly on the arms of the glasses and they disconnect. I let them go and they hang ever so gracefully around my neck.
Now when I take off my glasses to answer the phone or yell at the kids (can’t yell at kids with reading glasses on), I just unclick the glasses, let go and they hang around my neck. No more searching for glasses.
Hanging with a Cool Clic
My kids laughed at me until my daughter broke her arm and the orthopedic doctor had a pair of Clics hanging around his neck (mom wasn’t so weird then). My son became a convert when his doctor walked into the examining room with a pair around his neck too.
One Word of Caution
Be careful when switching glasses. After becoming accustomed to wearing Clicks, I’ve been known to throw a pair of sunglasses or two to the floor, forgetting that sunglasses do not have the built-in attachment around the back of the head.
